Behind
the Grain

August 19, 2026 Β· Fremont, Ohio

Raw timber. Serious tools. Custom craftsmanship. Then dinner and drinks along the Sandusky River.

Mission Briefing

This month, the Dudes are heading to Fremont for an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit to Decker Custom Woodworking.

Owner Adam Decker will welcome us into the shop and introduce us to the craftsmanship, machinery, materials, and people behind the company’s custom woodworking projects.

We will explore how raw wood moves through the shop and becomes cabinetry, furniture, architectural features, and one-of-a-kind finished pieces.

After the tour, we will continue the evening with dinner, drinks, and the official post-mission debrief at Tackle Box 2.

Mission Details

What Is Behind the Grain?

Most of us see the finished product: a table, cabinet, staircase, bar, door, or piece of furniture.

This visit gives us a chance to see everything that happens before the finished product leaves the shop.

We will get a closer look at the tools, materials, techniques, planning, and craftsmanship required to transform wood into something designed to last for generations.

From Raw Wood to Finished Work

Adam will guide us through the Decker Custom Woodworking facility and share the story of how the business approaches custom projects.

Depending on what is happening in the shop that evening, we may see:

  • 🌳 Raw logs, lumber, and live-edge slabs
  • πŸͺš Milling and woodworking equipment
  • πŸ’¨ The process used to prepare and dry wood
  • πŸ“ Design, measuring, and project planning
  • βš™οΈ Precision machinery and modern woodworking technology
  • πŸ”¨ Assembly, sanding, finishing, and hand craftsmanship
  • πŸͺ‘ Completed pieces and current projects in progress

Consider this our opportunity to ask the questions we have always wondered about while standing in the lumber aisle pretending we understand wood.

The Decker Story

Decker Custom Woodworking is a locally built business centered on craftsmanship, creativity, and making unique projects for its customers.

Adam will share how the company began, how it has grown, and what goes into operating a custom woodworking business.

This is not just a showroom visit. It is a chance to step into a working shop and meet someone who has turned skill, experience, and an appreciation for wood into a successful local business.
